I never write about any of my photographs, but this one in particular had an underlying meaning that I wanted to get across. The whole project I was currently doing entailed portraying experience and wisdom. I had been studying Stieglitz and how he had basically started abstract photography by photographing his wife up close. Some of his pieces were completely unobjective and it was hard to tell what it was he used for a subject as it was so close up. So I sought out to replicate that sort of style and capture the essence of experience and wisdom through something so simple just as Stieglitz. However, I found this increasingly difficult and as I was just about done and overly frustrated with trying to find the perfect shot, I saw the light streaming through the window onto my aunt’s hands. It was then I saw the unique beauty that aged hands possess. I saw the scars and the aging skin and wondered about the stories that were behind all those markings.
